The remark was made during a pre-budget discussion titled “National Budget 2026–27: Political Commitments and Citizens’ Expectations” held at a hotel in Gulshan of the capital this morning. 

While presenting the keynote paper, the speakers said, the upcoming budget could face a deficit of One lakh and 16 thousand crore takas. 

To meet the shortfall, dependence on foreign loans is expected to increase further this year. 

Researchers also stated that the revenue collection target of 6lakh 95 thousand crore taka being considered for the next budget is not realistic. 

They advised the government to increase its income to manage the budget effectively.
