The High Court has fixed January 13 next year for the hearing of the much talked 10-truck arms case during the BNP-Jamaat regime. The high court bench led by Justice Sahidul Karim fixed the date of hearing on Tuesday.
On April 1, 2004, 10 truckloads of arms were seized from CUFL Ghat. In this regard, two cases were filed in Karnaphuli Police Station under the Arms Act of 1878 and the Special Powers Act of 1974 on charges of smuggling.
In the judgment of the judicial court, former Minister of Industry and former Amir of Jamaat Matiur Rahman Nizami, former Minister of State for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar, military commander of Indian separatist organization ULFA Paresh Barua, senior officials of two intelligence agencies were ordered to be hanged.
In addition to the death penalty, each accused was fined five lakh taka.
