Three Indian sailors were killed after a U.S. military strike targeted an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, according to India's Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Reuters reported that the U.S. military disabled the tanker over allegations that it was transporting Iranian oil in violation of U.S. sanctions.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) released footage showing a precision strike on the vessel’s engine room after the crew allegedly ignored repeated warnings.
Several crew members were rescued alive. In response to the incident, the Indian government summoned the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission in New Delhi to lodge a formal protest.
