A 58-day ban on all forms of fishing in the Bay of Bengal has started at midnight and will continue until June 11.

To protect marine life, especially the endangered hilsa fish, the government annually enforces a fishing ban during the breeding season.

This year, the ban has been synchronized with India's fishing ban.

Previously, during the ban period, Bangladeshi fishermen would face idle time, allowing Indian fishermen to operate freely within Bangladesh's maritime borders.

However, with both countries imposing the ban at the same time, local fishermen are pleased with the alignment.
