The accident occurred in the Surkhakan  area when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle on a highway linking the capital, Kabul, with eastern provinces. 

The truck veered off the road and overturned. Among those killed were at least 10 children and five women. 

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition. 

A survivor claimed, the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to lose control and crash.
