Law Minister Mohammad Asaduzzaman has said, approxi-mately 45 lakh cases are currently pending across the country and has urged greater use of mediation before litigation.
The minister came up with the statement at while speaking at the inauguration of mandatory pre-litigation mediation programmes in ten districts, at his office on Tuesday.
The minister said, government maintains a zero-tolerance policy in providing legal assistance to the public.
He also stated that cases involving violence against women and children will not be withdrawn on political grounds.
The minister expressed hope that mandatory mediation would help reduce the country's growing case backlog.
