Flood situation in southeastern part of Bangladesh has worsened. Flooding has spread to new areas. Meanwhile, death toll rises to 13 due to the sudden flood.
According to some Indian media sources, the recent opening of the gates at India's Dambur hydroelectric project in Tripura has sent a torrent of upstream water flooding into Bangladesh, inundating the bordering districts of Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Feni.
At least, 30 lakh people in 10 districts are now marooned and till now 13 deaths have been reported in Feni, Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and Cox's Bazar districts. Electricity supply has been cut up in various affected areas to avoid accidents.
Telecommunications are also disrupted.
Besides, a large area of Burichong upazila has been flooded after the Gomoti river dam broke in Cumilla. In Chittagong, the dam of Halda river has been broken and flooded a large area of Hathazari upazila of Chattogram.
Hundreds of thousands of people in seven upazilas of the district are stuck in water. Meanwhile, even though the rain has subsided, lakhs of people are still stuck in water in Akhaura and Kasba in Brahmanbaria.
