A suspected push-in attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to send 7 people into Bangladesh through the Sheoratola border in Meherpur has been thwarted by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) with support from local residents.
In a separate incident, nine people including women and children were later taken back by the BSF from the zero-line area of Naogaon’s Patari border.
The incident took place early morning at the border of Meherpur, where the BSF tried to push seven people across the border. Facing resistance from BGB personnel and locals, the BSF was forced to withdraw them. Meanwhile, in Naogaon, nine people who had been staying at the zero line were taken back by the BSF at night.
BGB stopped the push-in attempt with the help of villagers, after which the group remained at the border area. Following the incidents, surveillance and patrols have been increased along several border points across the country to prevent further push-in attempts.
