He also added, however, depositors must be repaid no matter the source of funds.

He said this at the ERF-SME Foundation Award ceremony this morning.

The government’s key priority is to ensure depositors of weak banks get their money back.

For this, around Tk 25,000 crore has been allocated in the national budget.

Dr Salehuddin Ahmed warned that while interim reforms are positive, any reversal by future political governments could face public backlash. 

He also noted that the National Board of Revenue’s actions have led to diplomatic discomfort, prompting the need for official reassurances to international stakeholders.
