A week after the proposed national budget for the new fiscal year was unveiled, there has been little visible impact on the prices of essential commodities in the capital’s markets.
Relief remains out of reach for many middle- and low-income families struggling with the rising cost of living.
Consumers had hoped for quick relief after the budget announcement, but Dhaka’s markets show little change so far. Prices of seasonal vegetables such as gourds have fallen due to better supply.
However, yard-long beans and eggplants are up by nearly 10 taka per kilogram. Potato, onion, garlic, and ginger prices remain stable, while eggs are selling at around 40 taka for four.
