A growing political rift between student groups has sparked unrest across multiple higher education institutions in Bangladesh, with confrontations reported between the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Clashes reportedly broken out in several campuses, including incidents linked to disputes over the use of the term “Gupto” in wall writings at Chattogram City College, with tensions spilling into areas such as New Market.

The unrest has also spread to institutions like Ishwardi Government College, Cumilla Polytechnic and University of Dhaka.

The confrontation between the two student organisations has extended beyond campuses, influencing parliamentary discussions and social media debates.

Amid the rising tension, analysts suggest that renewed dialogue on the nature and direction of student politics is essential.
