The explosion occurred on Thursday at a coal mine in southwestern Pakistan. 

Rescue teams are working to reach the 31 miners still trapped underground.

Mine officials say gas has built up inside the mine following the blast, making rescue efforts more difficult. 

They are working to restore ventilation before continuing the operation. 

Authorities believe the explosion was caused by a buildup of methane gas inside the mine.
