Intermittent rainfall continues across the country under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The ongoing downpour has disrupted daily life, leaving many people waterlogged and raising concerns over landslides and flooding.

Water levels in several rivers across Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions have increased.

In Habiganj, the embankment of the Khowai River collapsed due to heavy rain and upstream water flow, flooding at least 15 villages.

Many homes and roads have gone underwater, causing severe suffering for residents.

At Lalmonirhat’s Dalia point, the Teesta River was flowing above the danger level earlier but later dropped below the mark.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre warned that Teesta’s water level may cross the danger mark within the next 24 to 48 hours, raising fears of short-term flooding in river-adjacent areas of Lalmonirhat, Rangpur and Kurigram.

Meanwhile, the Water Development Board warned of possible flash floods in low-lying areas of Sylhet due to forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

At least 30 people have died in landslides in Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar over the past four days.
