In a press release issued on Thursday, the central bank said it has begun printing a new series of banknotes themed on the historical and archaeological architecture of Bangladesh. 

New designs will be introduced for all denominations Tk2, Tk5, Tk10, Tk20, Tk50, Tk100, Tk200, Tk500 and Tk 1,000, but in the first phase, ahead of Eid, only the Tk 1,000, Tk50 and Tk 20 notes will be released.

The notes will bear the signature of Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur.

Initially, they will be issued from the central bank’s Motijheel office and later from its other offices across the country.

Bangladesh Bank said the existing paper notes and metal coins will continue to remain in circulation alongside the new notes.
