Direct train services between Dhaka and Gopalganj have begun through the Padma Bridge. The long-awaited service is expected to boost business, education, healthcare and tourism in Gopalganj.
A passenger train named ‘Abhijatri Commuter’ reached Gopalganj Railway Station at 7:10 pm on Monday after crossing the Padma Bridge.
A railway line was established in Gopalganj in 2018, and the Tungipara Express started operating on the Gopalganj-Rajshahi route that same year.
However, locals had long been waiting for a direct train service to Dhaka through the Padma Bridge.
The new train initially has eight coaches with 609 seats and will operate between Dhaka and Gopalganj six days a week, except Saturday.
