German side Borussia Dortmund confirmed their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup with a narrow 1-0 win over South Korean club Ulsan FC.
Earlier in Group E, Argentine giants River Plate suffered a 2-0 defeat to Italian side Inter Milan, who now advance to the next round.
Borussia Dortmund progressed to the knockout stage by topping Group F, maintaining an unbeaten run through all three of their matches.
From the onset, the German side displayed attacking intent, eventually breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute when Daniel scored the decisive goal. The teams headed into halftime with Dortmund leading 1-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern,with Dortmund maintaining pressure and composure. Nico Kovac’s men held on to the lead, securing victory with Daniel’s lone goal proving enough for all 3 points.
Elsewhere, the clash between Inter Milan and River Plate offered intense drama.In the first half both sides engage in a tactical battle, ending goalless at the break.
The momentum shifted in the 2nd half when River Plate’s Lucas Martinez received a red card in the 66th minute. Inter capitalized on the numerical advantage with Francesco netting in the 72nd minute.
Defender Alessandro Bastoni added a second goal during stoppage time,sealing a 2-0 win for the Italian club.
