The first session of the 13th National Parliament was presided over by Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain. During the session, retired Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram was elected Speaker of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, while Barrister Kaiser Kamal elected Deputy Speaker.
At the beginning of the session, PM and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman proposed the name of Dr. Mosharraf to preside over the session, citing the precedence of Abdur Rashid Tarkabagish, who chaired the first session of Bangladesh’s Constituent Assembly.
The proposal was seconded by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and also got support from the opposition.
Later, Dr. Mosharraf proposed the name of Hafiz Uddin Ahmed as Speaker, which was approved by voice vote.
Subsequently, the proposal to elect Kaiser Kamal as Deputy Speaker was also passed by voice vote.
