The Centre for Policy Dialogue, or CPD, has been said Bangladesh’s energy policy remains biased, with very low priority given to renewable energy in the proposed budget.

At a press briefing on the 2026–27 budget for the power and energy sector, CPD’s research director said there is a clear imbalance in allocations.

According to CPD, about 98 percent of funding goes to fossil fuels, while only 2 percent is allocated to renewable energy.

The organization also said lower taxes on LNG, coal, and oil imports create further barriers to clean energy growth.

CPD noted that electricity subsidies have increased significantly, while renewable energy projects have been reduced.

They urged the government to introduce a “green subsidy” and modernize the grid system to support clean energy expansion.
