Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami secured a place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Brazilian side Palmeiras.
In a dramatic encounter, the MLS club initially held a two-goal lead before Palmeiras staged a late comeback to level the match.
Inter Miami started brightly and took the lead in the 16th minute and they went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, Inter Miami extended their lead in the 65th minute with a goal from Suarez.
At 2-0, Miami seemed well on their way to a comfortable victory.
However, Palmeiras turned the game around in dramatic fashion.
The Brazilian side pulled one back in the 80th minute, and then struck again in the 87th minute to make it 2-2, stunning the Miami defense.
The draw highlights Inter Miami’s attacking strengths and areas for improvement in defense as they prepare for the next stage of their Club World Cup journey.
