He expressed optimism that many young candidates are contesting the election and will be elected to parliament by popular vote.

He made the remark at the opening of a three-day South Asian Regional Higher Education Conference in the capital. 

The conference is being attended by 30 international representatives, including delegates from the United Kingdom, Maldives, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, as well as representatives from the World Bank.
