Five Bangladeshis are among nine people killed in a devastating fire at a hotel in Kolkata’s busy New Market area. The victims include four members of the same family from Kushtia and another Bangladeshi from Aminbazar in Dhaka.
The fire broke out at Mariam Hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street late Tuesday night.
Six of the nine victims have so far been identified, including one Indian national from Jharkhand.
Three others are yet to be identified.
Fire officials suspect an air-conditioner explosion may have triggered the blaze, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
The death toll could rise further.
