US imposes new tariffs on Bangladesh, 59 other countries The United States has imposed new tariffs on selected imports from Bangladesh and 59 other countries, with the measures taking effect from today.
Under the new policy, certain products from Bangladesh and other affected countries will face an additional import duty ranging from 10 to 12.5 percent.
However, the Trump administration has said, the move is aimed at countries that have failed to take adequate measures against forced labour.
The new tariffs replace a temporary 10 percent duty introduced in February for 150 days. According to a notice published in the US Federal Register, the tariffs will apply to 99.4 percent of imported goods.
