Rice prices have risen sharply in Naogaon, even without any festival season. The price of aeromatic rice has increased by Tk 80 per kilogram in just three weeks, while fine rice prices have also gone up, adding pressure on consumers.
The biggest retail rice market in Naogaon is experiencing record-high prices for aeromatic rice. Three weeks ago, it was sold at Tk 120 per kilogram.
Now, it is being sold at Tk 200 per kilogram after an increase of Tk 80.
Fine rice prices have also gone up by Tk 4 to Tk 6 per kg--- Katari rice, which makes up around 80 percent of market sales, is now being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 82 per kg, up from Tk 76.
Swarna-5 rice has increased to Tk 51 per kg, while BR-28 rice is now selling at Tk 60, up from Tk 58. Consumers have expressed frustration over the sharp rise in rice prices.
