The recent increase in fuel prices is affecting a significant impact on Bangladesh's import and export trade. At Bhomra Land Port, truck rental costs have surged by 30 to 40 percent. Importers are also facing a shortage of available transport due to fuel supply constraints.
Bhomra is one of the country's key land ports for imports from India, handling essential commodities such as rice, lentils, onions, ginger, fruits, and industrial raw materials.
Previously, truck rental rates ranged from Tk 8 thousand to Tk 30 thousand depending on destination.
Since the fuel price increase, transport costs have risen by an additional Tk 5 thousand to Tk 10 thousand per trip.
As a result, many imported goods are being delayed at the port.
Business leaders warn, prolonged disruption could further strain supply chains and ultimately increase prices for consumers.
