Bangladesh is now facing a serious gas crisis, affecting homes, industries, power plants and CNG stations. 

Amid the crisis, the proposal of Petrobangla can lead to rising gas price for power generation from Tk 16 to Tk 25 per cubic metre, while CNG prices would increase from Tk 43 to Tk 65 per cubic metre. Experts say, the hike would increase electricity generation and transport costs, leading to higher inflation. 

They argue that instead of raising prices, the government should increase domestic gas production, reduce system losses and invest more in renewable energy to ensure a long-term solution
