The Ministry of Law has issued a notification to form an Election Inquiry Committee with 300 judicial officials to settle pre-election irregularities before the national polls. Earlier, the Election Commission sent a demand letter in this regard to the Ministry of Law.

Later, as per the rules, it goes to the Ministry of Law after the approval of the Supreme Court. Finally, the notification was issued on Thursday at the directive of the Election Commission.

The committee will have to send a report to the EC within three days with findings and recommendations on issues that hinder the conduct of free and fair elections including public representation order, code of conduct and intimidation, obstruction, suppression or publication of false information.

The committee can also inquire into the information received or complaints or incidents submitted to the committee. Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer or Election Officer will investigate and send a report to the Commission regarding complaints and incidents related to pre-election irregularities.
