Relief is beginning to return to consumers in Dhaka's kitchen markets as the price of green chillies has dropped sharply. After a sudden spike in recent days, the retail price has fallen by nearly Tk100 per kilogram and is now selling at around Tk 240.
Prices of several other vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots, have also declined by Tk20 to Tk30 per kilogram compared to last week.
Buyers say the lower prices have brought some relief, while traders expect essential commodity prices to fall further if rainfall decreases and supplies improve.
Meanwhile, the price of premium polao rice has increased by Tk70 to Tk80 per kilogram over the past week, with retail prices now ranging between Tk200 and Tk 210. Prices of other rice varieties, lentils and edible oil remain unchanged.
