At least 9 people have been killed after two passenger buses collided head-on in Osmaninagar on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.
The crash occurred at around 7:30 a.m.
on Friday in the Kashi-kapon area, leaving at least 13 others injured, several of them critically.
Death toll is expected to rise. Police said a Dhaka-bound Unique Paribahan bus collided with a Bengal Paribahan bus before one of the vehicles plunged into a roadside ditch.
Seven passengers died at the scene, while two more succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
Police, firefighters and local residents rushed to spot and carried out rescue operations. Traffic was briefly disrupted but has since returned to normal.
