Along with cows, buffaloes are also entering through illegal routes and are being distributed to different parts of the country after passing through several stages of selection. Some animals are reportedly being sent directly to slaughterhouses. 

Locals have alleged that a section of dishonest officials is helping operate these smuggling networks. 

However, the administration says, it has taken a strict stance to prevent cattle smuggling across the border.
