International relations analysts believe that India is unlikely to reopen its tourist visas for Bangladesh after West Bengal Assembly elections conclude.
India kept tourist visas for Bangladesh suspended since August 5, 2024.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister visited New Delhi on April 7–8 on a goodwill trip.
Following the visit, India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that business and medical visas would be further eased, although these categories were already operational.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, indicated that India assured a normalization of visa services.
However, analysts now suggest that despite otherwise stable diplomatic relations, the reopening of all categories of Indian visas is unlikely before the West Bengal elections.
