Reforms remain incomplete, and the election drums are yet to beat

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has finalized potential candidates for at least 290 constituencies ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Party Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is set to contest from a constituency in Dhaka’s Mirpur, while Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar will run from Khulna-5.

According to the party's second-highest leader, the list of candidates was finalized through secret ballots by grassroots leaders.

Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, a new political reality has emerged.

With the formation of an interim government under Dr. Yunus, major opposition party BNP has been pushing for swift national elections.

However, Jamaat’s public stance has remained “reforms first, elections later.”

Despite their public opposition to early elections, behind the scenes, Jamaat appears to be the most prepared among political parties.

The party's secretary general confirmed that the majority of candidate selections have already been finalized.
