Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has pledged a tough crackdown on corruption and extortion if his party gets the opportunity to govern, saying a “new Bangladesh” will be born through the ballot.
Speaking at an election rally in Barishal, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman warned that corruption would be tackled “by the neck” if Jamaat comes to power, and vowed that no one would be allowed to engage in extortion.
Addressing supporters on Friday morning at the Patarhat RC College ground in Mehendiganj, he said a new Bangladesh would emerge through democratic votes.
Dr. Rahman also emphasized women’s safety and dignity, stating that Jamaat’s struggle would continue until these are fully ensured.
He highlighted regional issues, including river erosion in Barishal, promising concrete solutions if elected. Recalling past repression against Jamaat, he said the party never stopped speaking for the people’s interests.
Later in the day, the Jamaat chief addressed another election rally at the Baufal Public Ground in Patuakhali, where he reiterated his promises and renewed his warning of strict action against corrupt officials and extortionists if Jamaat assumes power.
