Journalist Amit Habib passes away

Eminent journalist and Bangla daily Desh Rupantor editor Amit Habib is no more. The first Namaz-e-Janaza held at his workplace at Banglamotor in the morning. Later, the second Namaz-e-Janaza held at the National Press Club.

He breathed his last around 11:15 pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment at National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital. He was 59. The senior journalist was admitted to the city's Square Hospital as he fell sick at his office on July 21. Later, he was kept at intensive care unit (ICU) as his condition was deteriorated. He suffered a cardiac attack in 2021, his colleagues said and added that he was a diabetic.

Amit Habib was born on 23 October in 1963 at Kazirber village under Maheshpur upazila in Jhenidah district. His father's name was Khandaker Wahedul Haque. Amit's mother Shamsun Nahar Bakul died on November 3 last year. Earlier, his father also passed away, who was known as a prominent businessman of Maheshpur upazila. Amit was the eldest among Wahedul's three children. His two younger brothers are Faizul Habib and Mehedi Hasan.

After passing higher secondary from Jashore MM College in 1980, Amit Habib was admitted to Statistics department of the then Jagannath College. Since then, he had been involved in writing.

In his long career, he served as advisory editor of Dainik Kaler Kantho, chief news editor of Dainik Samakal. He also worked at Dainik Ajker Kagoj and Dainik Jai Jai Din in different positions.
