A court in Chattogram has sentenced Monir Hossain to life imprisonment in the rape case of a three-and-a-half-year-old child in Bakalia’s Chairman Ghata area. The court also fined him 50,000 taka.
Judge Syeda Hafsa Jhuma of the Chattogram Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict on Wednesday.
The court completed the trial proceedings, including witness statements, the accused’s defense hearing, and arguments from both sides, within five working days.
Monir Hossain had claimed himself innocent during the defense hearing, but no defense witnesses were presented.
After final arguments from the prosecution and defense, the court delivered the verdict within 25 days of the incident.
