Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said, local government polls to be held at the end of current year or by early next year
He made the remarks on Monday morning after inaugurating the BRDB divisional office in Rangpur's Terminal area.
Referring to the Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Fakhrul urged the party to revisit its own constitution and questioned whether Jamaat itself could be considered democratic.
He also said, local government elections are expected to begin either by the end of this year or early next year, adding that the Election Commission will determine the eligibility criteria for candidates.
