The first unit of Matarbari coal-based power plant will go into commercial production in next December. And production will start in the second unit in July next year.
The two units will add a total of 1200 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
Electricity department officials believe that it will be easier to provide uninterrupted power. Analysts believe that there is a risk because the primary fuel is dependent on imports.
The construction work of coal-based power plant project is going on at Matarbari in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar at a cost of about 51 thousand 800 crores.
Experimental production is going on from the first unit of this center with a total capacity of 1200 MW in two units. The stakeholders also feel that this sector will not be risk-free if primary fuel cannot be secured from domestic sources.
