According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), seventy-four percent children infected with measles had not received any vaccination, while 14 percent had not completed the full dose,
The health authorities say, a significant portion of infected children were unvaccinated, making it a key driver behind the sharp increase in cases in Bangladesh. In response to the situation, the government launched a nationwide special vaccination campaign on April 5 amid the measles outbreak.
The DGHS has stated that an adequate stock of vaccines is currently available.
Meanwhile, researchers say, better planning based on data could have prevented the outbreak from reaching epidemic levels.
Public health experts emphasized the need to expand research on infectious diseases in future.
