Middle east tensions create uncertainty for migrant workers

Ongoing tensions and war-like conditions in the Middle East have created serious uncertainty in the overseas job market. Many expatriate workers who returned home on leave are now facing visa expiry.

While Qatar and Saudi Arabia have extended visa validity for one month, the government is still talking with other countries to extend visas for Bangladeshi workers.

 

 

Every year, many workers from Bangladesh go to countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar for better jobs. 

 

 

Recently, the conflict grew after the United States and Israel attacked Iran, and Iran responded with missile and drone strikes on US bases in the region. 

 

 

Because of the conflict, several countries closed their airspace and many flights were cancelled.

 

 

This has worried Bangladeshi workers in the region about their safety and jobs, while many who returned home are now stranded in Bangladesh
