Voting has begun in municipal elections in Deir al-Balah in Gaza and across the West Bank, marking the first time Palestinians have gone to the polls since the war. The last such elections were held in 2006.

According to the Central Elections Commission based in Ramallah, nearly 1.5 million voters are registered in the West Bank, while approximately 70 thousand  are eligible to vote in Deir al-Balah.

Polling stations opened at 7:00 a.m. local time. This marks the first Palestinian election since the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza war in October 2023.

Meanwhile, at least 12 people were killed in Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours in Khan Younis and Gaza City. Among the dead were six police officers.
