Myanmar has ordered the East Timor ambassador to leave the country within seven days, according to the state media citing Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Myanmar has ordered the East Timor ambassador to leave the country following a criminal complaint filed against Myanmar’s military.
Last month, the CHRO lodged the case with East Timor’s judiciary, accusing the Myanmar Armed Forces of war crimes and crimes against humanity since the 2021 military coup.
Earlier this month, East Timor’s judicial authorities reportedly initiated legal proceedings against top military officials.
Myanmar’s military government is also facing international pressure, including an ongoing case at the International Court of Justice over alleged atrocities against the Rohingya minority.
Myanmar continues to deny all allegations.
