The newly elected Speaker of Parliament, retired Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikrom, assures that he will remain neutral and says everyone will work together to build a prosperous Bangladesh.
In the morning, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker paid tribute to the martyred heroes of 1971 at the National Memorial with flowers.
Commenting on the opposition’s walkout during the President’s speech, the Speaker said walkouts are a common practice, but shouting slogans in Parliament is against tradition.
He emphasized that both the ruling and opposition parties will advance Bangladesh’s development.
Comparing himself to a neutral umpire in cricket, Major Hafiz expressed hope that the Parliament will fulfill the people’s expectations.
