Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to China has sparked renewed optimism among Bangladesh's business community. They expect the visit to inject new momentum into bilateral trade relations, help narrow the long-standing trade deficit, and encourage greater Chinese investment in Bangladesh.
Although China is one of Bangladesh's largest development partners, the country has yet to receive the level of Chinese investment it has long anticipated.
The trade imbalance between the two nations also remains significantly high.
However, business leaders believe the Prime Minister's visit to Beijing has opened a new chapter in Bangladesh's economic and trade diplomacy.
They say the MoUs signed between the two countries during the visit could play a positive role in reducing the trade deficit.
