The ruling BNP has nominated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as its candidate for the presidential election. As a result, thanks to the party’s majority in Parliament, he is set to become the country’s 23rd head of state.
Earlier on the day, around 11:45 a.m., leaders of the 11-party alliance submitted Oli Ahmed’s nomination papers at the Election Commission in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The presidential election is being held to elect the country’s 23rd president. According to the schedule, nomination papers will be scrutinized on August 16, while candidates can withdraw their nominations on August 18.
The presidential election will be held on August 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
