The Head of Inquiry Commission of Disappearances Moinul Islam Chowdhury has said, the previous government used enforced disappearances as a tool to centralize political power and prolong its rule.
At a press conference held at Dhaka’s Gulshan, the Commission revealed that even ordinary citizens were unlawfully handed over to Indian security forces.
Moinul Islam Chowdhury stated that the Commission has so far inspected 16 secret detention centers.
Since July, the commission has received around 1,850 complaints of enforced disappearances.
The former judge criticized the flaws in the current counter-terrorism methods.
