Train journeys ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr have officially begun across the country. Transport authorities say passengers will not face fuel price hikes during the holiday travel period.
Road Transport and Railways Minister Robiul Alam made the assurance while visiting Kamalapur Railway Station this morning, adding that public transport will receive adequate fuel supply from March 15 to ensure smooth travel during the Eid rush.
The Eid train journey started early this morning from Kamalapur Railway Station. The trains will depart according to schedule throughout the day.
However, passenger pressure remained relatively low on the first day. Railway authorities say crowds are expected to increase once the official holidays begin but remain hopeful that travel will stay smooth.
A total of 43 pairs of intercity, commuter, and local trains will operate daily during the Eid period. Meanwhile, return tickets for post-Eid travel also went on sale today.
