Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has announced that all necessary road repair works in Dhaka will be completed before the upcoming winter season, in an effort to combat worsening air pollution in the capital.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat following a meeting with a visiting Chinese delegation, she emphasized that the government is prioritizing both air and noise pollution control in the city.

The Chinese team made several key re-commendations, which will be addressed through short, medium and long-term measures implemented by a coordinated task force.

One of the major steps includes a directive to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to remove outdated buses from Dhaka’s streets.

The adviser also confirmed that approval has been granted for the purchase of 250 new buses as part of efforts to modernize public transportation and reduce pollution.
