Home Minister, Salahuddin Ahmed has said, Rajarbagh Police Lines was the first foundation of declaration of Bangladesh’s Independence war
He made the remarks after placing wreaths at Rajarbagh Police Memorial on the occasion of Great Independence and National Day.
The home Minister said, the first massacre of unarmed Bengalis began at Rajarbagh Police Lines on the night of March 25, 1971, and that the events there created the backdrop for the declaration of independence.
He added that, the then Major Ziaur Rahman received news of the killings, launched a revolt in Chattogram, and later made the formal declaration of independence from Kalurghat on March 27.
