Severe river erosion has been reported at 26 locations along four rivers in Gaibandha, prompting widespread fear among riverside residents. Many have already begun relocating their homes to safer areas.
As the upstream floodwaters recede, erosion has intensified along the Teesta, Brahmaputra, Ghaghat, and Korotoya rivers.
Vast areas of cropland, homesteads, and other structures are being washed away within moments at at least 26 erosion hotspots.
Fearing further losses, residents living along the riverbanks are moving their homes.
Cracks have also appeared along the riverbanks, putting several educational institutions, mosques, temples, and madrasas at risk in some areas.
Local authorities say they are working to prevent further erosion.
