International Crimes Tribunal has accepted charges against 41 individuals in a crimes against humanity case over Shapla Chattar killings and issued arrest warrants for fugitive accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier in the day, the prosecution formally submitted the charges. The report was handed over to the tribunal's registrar on behalf of the Chief Prosecutor.
Besides Sheikh Hasina, the accused include former Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed, former Inspector General of Police Shahidul Hoque, former IGP Benazir Ahmed, former State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, writer and journalist Shahriar Kabir, Mozammel Babu, and Farzana Rupa.
Nine of the accused are currently in custody. Earlier, the Chief Prosecutor said, investigators had identified 58 victims of the Shapla Chattar killings.
