At least six people from two families have died after a fire broke out at a residential building in Uttara, Dhaka.
Several others were injured and rushed to hospitals for treatment.
The fire erupted around 7:30 a.m. on Friday at a seven-storey residential building located in Sector 11 of Uttara.
According to the Fire Service, the blaze is believed to have originated from the kitchen of a flat on the second floor, though the exact cause is still under investigation.
Two units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene after receiving the alert and managed to bring the fire under control after nearly half an hour of effort.
During the rescue operation, firefighters safely rescued 13 people from the building and sent them to different hospitals in the capital for medical treatment.
Despite rescue efforts, six people later died at hospitals due to severe injuries. Among the deceased, three were members of the same family.
Several others are still undergoing treatment.Eyewitnesses said they immediately informed the Fire Service after noticing flames and smoke coming from the building.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), have arrived at the scene to investigate the incident further.
